Artists Biography

back to top of page
Mike Smith

"My art has evolved from site-specific installation and its documentation (inspired by Gordon Matta-Clark) into interactive 'events' involving concepts of play, music, movement, community, and importantly, inspiring the inner-child. I co-founded an 'art' group to build and eventually perform within these physical and mental playgrounds, Environmental Encroachment, or 'EE'. Performance, environment, self-expression, and play are some tools and methods for creation, joy and inspiration.

The architecture that supports these events is an important artistic focus. This can be actual shelter, or playground toys, installations in trees, any physical/environmental aspect of the art experience. Each activity or installation should integrate the surrounding landscape, culture and aesthetics."
